Oh so sick...

This has been a very hard year for us.  We've been here in the house just 8 months and we've had upper-respiratory infections, the flu, pneumonia, strep -- twice, ear infections, weird rashes (all of this hitting most everyone in the family)... and this past week we've had gastro (my guess is rota-virus).  It started with ED early last week. Then we went out of town to visit Grandma and Grandpa.  The night we arrived DD started throwing up every 15 minutes. This lasted for the next 20 hours. Then every couple hours for the next two days. She couldn't keep down any liquids.   The next night LD got it, but recovered quickly. But DD never got better.  We drove back home and took her in to the doctor today.  He gave her an anti-nausea medication and the advice to take her to the ER if she doesn't improve in the next few hours.  Sigh...

On a nice note, Grandma and Grandpa took LD and ED to the shore and they had a wonderful time collecting shells and things.

  1. Oh my goodness, how awful. Our oldest had rotovirus when she was younger and ended up in the hospital for 4 days! It comes on quickly and can turn very bad in a very short period of time. I am praying for you and your family. Take care and hoping everyone is better soon!

  2. Oh dear...I hope there is nothing in the house causing the sickness.

  3. Thanks for the nice comments Faith and Kylie. We too wondered why we've gotten so sick, but had the house tested for everything from radon to mold before we bought it.(We also had the water tested.) I just have the feeling we were just not immune to the bugs here -- or ready for the cold weather. I even wondered about our diet since that can have such an impact on health... but we are probably even more careful about what/how we eat than when we lived in Australia -- buying organic as much as possible, buying as little processed food as possible -- I even make my own bread quite a lot of the time. I've been scared off by all the GM foods, excessive use of high-fructose corn syrup in American foods, etc.

Each time we have another round of something I hope that this is the last of it! DD is still quite sick, but definitely over the worst of it. She's even eating a few bites of food here and there.
